Can a pediatric urgent care remove a foreign object from my child’s ear or nose?
Quick Answer
Yes. Prime Time Pediatrics’ board-certified providers perform in-office foreign body removal from children’s ears or noses frequently. Simply call 706-705-4543 or register online before arriving, and we’ll evaluate whether the object can be safely removed on site or needs specialist referral. (See full medical disclaimer in the detailed answer below.)
Detailed Answer
Foreign objects—beads, peas, tiny plastic toys—often end up in little ears and noses. Fortunately, as Athens’ only walk-in pediatric urgent care center, Prime Time Pediatrics has the child-sized tools and training to remove most of these surprises right in the clinic, saving you from an expensive emergency-room visit. During the visit a board-certified pediatrician or our pediatric nurse practitioner will first use a bright light (an otoscope) to see exactly what’s lodged where. Depending on the size, shape, and location, we may gently lift the item out with micro-forceps, a soft suction catheter, or a small balloon catheter for nostrils. We provide distraction techniques (bubbles, cartoons, popsicles, prizes from the treasure chest) so the procedure stays quick and low-stress.
Because the ear canal and nasal passages are delicate, it’s safest to seek professional removal rather than trying tweezers at home, which can push the object deeper or cause bleeding. Call us at 706-705-4543 or register ahead through our Fast Pass (primetimepeds.com/fast-pass) to shorten wait time, but walk-ins are always welcome as long as there is remaining availability.. We’re open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 7:30AM – 7PM, Wednesday 7:30AM – 5PM, and Saturday 8AM – 3PM. Our kid-friendly Watkinsville clinic has free parking and a stroller-ready ramp.
