What should I do if my child has a nose bleed that won’t stop? Can pediatric urgent care help?
Quick Answer
Have your child sit up, lean forward, and gently pinch the soft part of the nose for 10 minutes without checking. If bleeding continues after two full 10-minute cycles (20 minutes total), call Prime Time Pediatrics Urgent Care at 706-705-4543 and head to our pediatric urgent care for prompt evaluation.

Detailed Answer
Most nosebleeds in kids look scary but they rarely mean something serious and can often be handled at home without a visit to urgent care..
1) Stay calm and have your child sit upright in a chair or on your lap; keep the head slightly bent forward so blood doesn’t run down the throat.
2) Using a tissue or clean cloth, pinch the soft lower half of the nostrils together with gentle and steady pressure—no peeking—for a full 10 minutes.
3) If the bleeding hasn’t stopped, repeat once more.
4) After bleeding stops, remind your child not to pick, blow, or rub the nose for the rest of the day; a little petroleum jelly just inside the nostril can keep the lining moist.
Our pediatric urgent care center is open Monday–Saturday with extended evening hours, and no appointment is needed.
